About Me

Hi, I’m Leah!

I got my NASM certification as a personal trainer mostly to prove to myself that I could.  I’ve been exercising for most of my life.  It wasn’t until I started the journey of recovering from a 20+ year eating disorder, that I realized my relationship with exercise was unhealthy.  I always saw exercise as something I had to do to burn calories and earn food.  But recovery showed me that exercise could be fun.  It didn’t have to be about burning calories.  Instead, it could be about building strength and confidence.

When I started working at a women's gym, I began to realize that I had an opportunity to be part of the growing army of voices challenging old exercise standards for women.  I wanted women to know you don’t have to look a certain way to have the right to take up space in a gym or to be able to lift heavy weights.  I wanted a woman who was intimidated at the idea of weights to see me, at 46 years old, with body fat and physical limitations, deadlift my own body weight and think to herself, “If she can do that, maybe I can do that too.”

There is no greater honor than accompanying a woman on her strength journey and watching her surpass her own expectations.  And that’s how Lifted Heavily Ever After was born.
